The F2P racing game goes mobile

Forza Street is a free-to-play 3D car racing game from Microsoft that lets players get behind the wheel of epic cars and race through the streets of cities all over the world. However, unlike the mainline Forza games on PC and consoles, the mobile version of the game isn’t much of a racing game. It feels more like a F2P drag racing game, which means you won’t have direct control of the car, aside from the gas and the turbo. 

Great story mode

Forza Street may have Forza on its name, but in reality, it is a rebrand of the Microsoft-released game, Miami Street. Microsoft took the core of the latter and gave it a refreshed narrative, faster boost-ups, upgraded car parts, and new animations. Unlike Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport, the game will throw you into the street-racing life with a complete garage of cars at your disposal. Forza Street has a great story mode, which has hundreds of races and loads of opponents to go against.

When you play the story mode, you can meet new characters, unlock loads of cars, and be able to become a famous racer. On top of that, you can also tune up your collected vehicles to improve their performance. You can also customize the look of your garage. You start the game by picking an event. You will then choose a lineup from your collection of cars.

Each race starts out with a mini-game, where you will need to race off the starting line. With this, you get to take off at some speed. Each race won will reward you with a car that you can add to your collection. Forza Street lets you race on your own terms. You can dive into the story-driven events to win the cars you love. You can also squeeze in a fun quick one-minute race. 

More like arcade racing

Forza Street comes with controls perfectly adapted to touchscreen devices. However, as mentioned, it isn’t much a racer. The gameplay is similar to the CSR series, which means you won’t have direct control over your vehicle. There is no steering, and you can only use the gas and turbo buttons. If you are looking for a racing or driving simulator-like gameplay, you can look to series such as Real Racing and Asphalt. 

Essentially, the game is all about timing as you only need to watch out for corners—which are often hidden from view. You only need to know when to take your thumb off the gas or boost. This is basically what you will do in every racing event. To make it aggravating, the camera is always moving. This makes it harder to get the timing for the controls. 

Forza Street is a free-to-play game, so expect poor monetization. There will be loot boxes, stamina system, and multiple types of in-game currency. There will also be an excruciatingly-long forced tutorial that players need to go through.  

Great game, but not for long

As with its PC counterpart, Forza Street provides players with overall nice game visuals and a large selection of cars. Moreover, since it is downloadable on smartphones, it is playable anywhere and anytime. However, its biggest drawback is that it tends to become boring over time. The races are quite repetitive with no steering and drifting that players may lose interest after playing for some time. In the end, it does not live up to its Forza name.
